On Friday, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, the President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association and wife of Nigeria’s Comptroller-General of Customs, provided food and cash assistance to 50 widows of customs officers at the Ogun 1 Area Command in Idiroko.

In addition to the aid for widows, Adeniyi distributed educational supplies, including books and mathematical sets, to customs service students in primary and secondary schools. Notably, 54 academically outstanding students received scholarships.

Adeniyi emphasized that this initiative was intended to reassure the widows of fallen officers that they are remembered and supported within available means. She highlighted the commitment of the Customs Service to improve the welfare of the families of their officers.

Recognizing the unique challenges faced by families, especially those stationed in challenging border areas like Idiroko, she acknowledged the difficulties these officers encounter while combating smugglers and criminals, which impact their families significantly.

Adeniyi encouraged the women to remain strong and prayerful, urging them to inspire their husbands to continue their vital work in safeguarding the nation. “As wives and mothers, we understand the fears and sacrifices that come with having loved ones on the frontlines,” she said. “While the threat of danger looms, your steadfast support is crucial for their morale and dedication.”

She urged the women to engage in continuous personal development to better support their families and contribute to the nation’s progress. Upholding the values of compassion, solidarity, and empowerment, she called for unity in advancing the mission of the Ogun 1 Area Command.

Earlier, Adenike Folu-Ojo, Chairperson of COWA at the Ogun 1 Area Command, praised Adeniyi for her ongoing efforts to assist both the families of fallen officers and those still serving. Folu-Ojo described Adeniyi’s visit as a beacon of hope, acknowledging that while the grief of loss is profound, COWA’s support helps lighten the burden.

She expressed gratitude for Adeniyi’s inspirational leadership, which motivates the women in Ogun 1 Area Command to stay resilient and committed to providing both emotional and material support to affected families. Folu-Ojo pledged the members’ support for Adeniyi’s vision of enhancing the lives of both current and fallen officers’ families.
