Oyebanji Urges Ekiti Residents to Take Ownership of Community Infrastructure
…Commissions Two Township Roads in Ado-Ekiti

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has called on residents to take responsibility for maintaining and protecting infrastructure in their communities, emphasizing that community ownership is key to ensuring the sustainability and longevity of public projects.

The Governor made the appeal on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti during the commissioning of the Bovas–Spotless Road and Palace–Oke-Age–Idolofin Road, two major township projects completed as part of activities marking the third anniversary of his administration.

Represented by his wife, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, the Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding infrastructure development across Ekiti State, noting that roads are vital not only for transportation but also for boosting economic growth, trade, and security.

“Let me urge all road users and residents to maintain and preserve this road,” Oyebanji said. “It is an investment in our collective future, and we all have a role to play in sustaining it.”

He cautioned residents against actions that could damage the new roads, such as dumping refuse in drainage channels or excavating along road shoulders. According to him, the newly commissioned projects will ease traffic congestion, reduce travel time, and open up new economic opportunities for residents and businesses in the area.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Sola Adebayo, described the projects as a major milestone in the state government’s efforts to improve accessibility, enhance aesthetics, and transform Ekiti’s capital city. He explained that many of the rehabilitated roads had been in deplorable condition for years before the Oyebanji-led government intervened.

Adebayo added that the administration’s vision is to develop a modern, durable road network capable of easing traffic flow and improving the general quality of life for residents. He urged communities to safeguard the infrastructure and desist from practices that could shorten the lifespan of the roads, such as constructing unauthorized speed bumps or dumping waste indiscriminately.

Community leaders, including Mr. Adebayo Folorunso and Chief Adetileyin, who spoke on behalf of landlords and residents, expressed appreciation to Governor Oyebanji for his developmental strides. They praised his commitment to improving living conditions and pledged continued support for his administration’s shared prosperity agenda.

The event was attended by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Monisade Afuye, Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Habibat Adubiaro, Head of Service, Dr. (Mrs.) Folakemi Olomojobi, Chief of Staff, Mr. Niyi Adebayo, members of the State Executive Council, and the House of Assembly.

The Governor reiterated that his administration would “not rest on its oars” in delivering more dividends of democracy, calling on citizens to join hands in advancing the collective development of Ekiti State.
