Amy Freeze is an American television meteorologist who has been the anchor of WABC-TV’s popular Eyewitness News Saturday and Sunday Morning since 2011. She is one of only a few females in the world who has earned the highly-respected Certified Broadcast Meteorologist certification from the American Meteorological Society. She also holds a Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society and also from the National Weather Association. After spending a brief period at Fox News in Chicago where she worked as a chief meteorologist, Amy joined the Channel 7 Eyewitness News Weather Team in 2011. Prior to that, she was a staff of Philadelphia’s WCAU-TV where she also worked as a meteorologist. She also worked on the local morning news program “Good Day Oregon” for KPTV in Portland, and also as a morning meteorologist at KMGH-TV in Denver. After bagging her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Brigham Young University, with a focus on Broadcast Journalism, Amy attended the University of Pennsylvania for a Master’s Degree in Environmental Sciences. To add to her impressive educational qualifications, she also holds a bachelor of science degree in Geosciences obtained from Mississippi State University, with a concentration on Severe Weather and Forecasting.
An avid runner, this brave lady has completed marathons in New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and California. She is also a certified SCUBA diver and has even reported on movies and entertainment reported for the Major League Soccer (first female sideline reporter) and covered the Olympic Games in Atlanta and Salt Lake City. Born in Utah and brought up in Southern Indiana, Freeze has lived in eight different states. She resides on the Upper West Side where she currently dedicates her time to community speaking in schools, lecturing school children about weather and also supporting charitable causes. She has emceed the Miles to Fight Melanoma Race, the Miss Illinois/Miss America Pageant in Chicago, and also won Chicago’s “Dancing with the Stars” competition benefitting the March of Dimes.

Amy Elizabeth Freeze was born on June 19, 1974, in Utah, United States. She is the first of the five daughters of Linda and Bill Freeze.
Raised in Indiana, she attended Jeffersonville High School in Jeffersonville, Indiana, and graduated from the institution in 1992. A Mormon, she attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, graduating in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications. She also bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Geosciences from the reputed Mississippi State University in Starkville, Mississippi. In addition to the aforementioned, Amy also attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for a Master’s Degree, after which she decided to pay full focus to her thriving broadcasting career.
Professional Life: Meteorologist & Broadcast Journalist
Before joining WFLD, Freeze spent some time in Philadelphia working for NBC’s WCAU as a meteorologist and co-presenter of the live entertainment show “10!” on NBC10. During that time she also performed several duties at Rockefeller Center in New York City as a fill-in reporter for NBC’s Weekend Today and MSNBC.
Freeze worked in Denver, Colorado, at KWGN and at KMGH as well. She started her broadcasting career at KPTV in Portland, Oregon, as a presenter of the program Good Day Oregon.
In film, she has made appearances on a couple of on-camera projects. She had a cameo appearance in an episode of the comedy-drama TV series Scrubs (2001–2010) in 2005.

In 2017, NJ.com named Freeze as one of the Top Forecasters in New York. Her work in the field of broadcast journalism has earned her multiple Emmy Award winnings and nominations, including for “Outstanding Host”, “Best Weathercaster”, and for her weather special, “Surviving Severe Weather.”
During her time in Chicago, the adventurous reporter visited more than ten thousand area students each year giving weather reports on tornadoes and other severe weather. She hosted the first Weather Education Days in history for Major League Baseball’s Chicago White Sox, the Chicago Cubs, and also for the Chicago Wolves hockey team.
Freeze made history as the first-ever female sideline reporter for the MLS while working for the Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, and LA Galaxy. She also worked on the sides for the Chicago Bears of the NFL for four seasons.
It is important to add that Freeze was the first woman ever to work as Chief Meteorologist in Chicago, Illinois, for the Fox owned-and-operated news station WFLD in Chicago. She served here for four years from 2007 to 2011.
With certificate number 111, She has been certified as a broadcast meteorologist by the American Meteorological Society, becoming one of the first twenty women in the world to earn this respectable certification. She also has her American Meteorological Society and National Weather Association Seals of Approval.

She has completed nine marathons as a runner, and she has climbed to the summit of Mount Timpanogos, to the summit of Mount Snowdon in Wales, and all seven peaks of Mount Fuji. Freeze is the mother of four children and resides in Manhattan, New York with her children. She has remained single after her highly publicized divorce from her marriage to Gary Arbuckle in 2016.
