AUG Foundation Extends Humanitarian Outreach, Distributes Food and Cash to Vulnerable Households in Zamfara

The AUG Foundation for Orphans and the Less Privileged has intensified its humanitarian efforts in Zamfara State with the distribution of food items and cash assistance to vulnerable households in Maru and Bungudu Local Government Areas. The outreach, which benefited 150 households, forms part of the Foundation’s carefully structured statewide humanitarian programme aimed at reaching all emirate councils across the state.

The Foundation, led by Abdulhafiz Umar Barau, also known by his traditional titles Dan Isan Gusau and Magayakin Tsafe, has adopted an emirate-by-emirate approach to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and direct impact at the grassroots. This latest phase follows earlier distributions carried out in Gusau, Tsafe, Dansadau, and Kwatarkwashi, with Zamfara West scheduled as the next focus area as the programme advances toward full statewide coverage.

According to the organisers, the intervention is designed to tackle growing food insecurity, economic hardship, and the daily survival challenges faced by widows, orphans, unemployed youths, and low-income families across communities. Zamfara State, like many parts of northern Nigeria, has continued to grapple with poverty, displacement, and rising living costs, making such community-level support increasingly critical.

150 Households Benefit From Direct Support

During the exercise in Maru and Bungudu LGAs, a total of 150 beneficiaries were selected from different communities following a needs-based assessment. Each beneficiary received one bag of rice alongside ₦10,000 in cash support. The Foundation explained that the combination of food items and cash assistance was deliberately chosen to give households flexibility in meeting their most urgent needs.

Speaking at the event, the State Coordinator of the Foundation, Comrade Abdul Bala Gusau, said the outreach reflects a deliberate commitment by the Founder to ensure that no part of the state is excluded from humanitarian support.

“This is not a one-off intervention. It is part of a structured statewide programme designed to ensure that every emirate council and vulnerable community in Zamfara State benefits from direct assistance,” he said. He further emphasized that transparency, accountability, and sustainability remain central to the Foundation’s operations.

Traditional Institutions Laud the Initiative

Representatives of the Maru and Bungudu Emirate Councils commended the Foundation and its leadership for maintaining consistency and a strong grassroots focus. They described the intervention as timely, noting that it has provided immediate relief to families struggling with basic needs.

The traditional leaders also offered prayers for Allah to continue to grant the Founder strength, wisdom, and the resources needed to sustain and expand the Foundation’s humanitarian mission across the state.

Not Part of Ramadan Palliatives

The AUG Foundation clarified that the Maru and Bungudu distribution exercise is separate from its forthcoming Ramadan support programme, which will be unveiled independently. According to the Foundation, the Ramadan initiative will have its own structure and scope, complementing rather than replacing the ongoing statewide humanitarian rollout.

Looking ahead, the Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to reaching all 14 Local Government Areas and emirate councils in Zamfara State. Planned interventions include food relief, educational support for orphans, healthcare assistance, and direct financial empowerment for vulnerable individuals.

As the humanitarian outreach continues, many residents and observers have described the initiative as a positive example of community-driven support at a time when economic pressures remain high, urging other well-meaning individuals and organisations to adopt similar people-centred interventions.
