David Bromstad is a gifted American designer as well as a television personality. Fans of the popular HGTV Design Star would probably remember him as the winner of the debut season of the talent hunt show. He is the youngest of four children born into the family of Richard Harold David Bromstad and Diane Marlys Bromstad (Krueger). His father is Norwegian while his mother is of German and Swedish descent. He has three older siblings, Dyonne Rachael Bromstad, Dean Richard Bromstad, and Dynelle Renee Bromstad.

He decided to pursue a career as a Disney animator while attending Wayzata High School in Minnesota. After graduating from high school he enrolled in Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. Once he had graduated from college, he joined Disney as an illustrator and started his career.

Bromstad started as a Disney illustrator before moving on to open his own company, Bromstad Studio, which specializes in building fantasy bedrooms for children. At the urging of one of his most trusted friends, Bromstad moved to Miami Beach in Florida to try out for HGTV’s Design Star. Now, this was a reality show competition to select a host for a new program on the HGTV cable network. On the Design Star show, Bromstad competed against nine other contestants, winning the grand prize – a car, and also the chance to host any show of his choice on HGTV.
Bromstad was a guest on season two of HGTV Design Star, appearing as a guest panelist in the first episode and providing motivation and support to the finalists in “Challenge 7: Island Dreams”.
In 2008 Bromstad became the spokesperson for Mythic Paint. He is also a brand ambassador for Miele home appliances.
