Farewell to an Icon: Natasha Hamilton Leaves Atomic Kitten After 26 Unforgettable Years
Natasha Hamilton has revealed that she is leaving the girl group Atomic Kitten after 26 years to pursue her solo career.
The 42-year-old singer joined the group in 1999, alongside Liz McClarnon and Kerry Katona, who were later replaced by Jenny Frost.
Hamilton said her tenure with the group, famed for classics like The Tide Is High and Whole Again, had not always been easy, but she “wouldn’t change a thing.”
In a lengthy statement shared on Instagram, she wrote: “At the beginning of the year, I didn’t know how to handle being a Kitten while still trying to break out as a solo artist, but I gave it a shot and I have to admit, it’s been difficult.
“Mainly because I move from being this strong, empowered woman, launching a new job, to returning to a version of myself that I have outgrown.
“I’ve been living in two worlds, and it’s been challenging to navigate both. “26 incredible years, writing so many wonderful chapters, but now the time has come for me to close the book on this one.”
The girl group’s debut album, Right Now, was published in 2000, followed by Feels So Good in 2002, both of which peaked at number one.
Their third and final album, Ladies Night, which featured a rendition of Kool & The Gang’s classic song of the same name, reached at number five.
Meanwhile, their singles Whole Again, Eternal Flame, and The Tide Is High (Get The Feeling) all performed well and topped the charts.
Over the years, the group has reformed for various projects with different lineups, with Hamilton and McClarnon remaining active members.
The trio regained popularity in recent years after releasing a reworking of Whole Again to support England at the 2020 Euros, named Southgate You’re the One (Football’s Coming Home Again).
Hamilton stated, “The ride hasn’t always been smooth but I wouldn’t change a single thing,” as she thought back on her time with the gang.
“I’ve laughed and cried many a time with the girls, experienced so many surreal moments and been blessed with a career spanning 26 years – it’s been incredible and something I will always cherish.”
The mother of five announced that Sunday would be her final Atomic Kitten show for the time being as she will now be focussing on her new endeavours.
“I will always be eternally grateful for AK’s support in helping me get back on my feet, both financially and mentally,” the woman continued.
