FG begins emergency repairs on Lagos-Abeokuta road
The Federal Government has begun urgent repairs on a 7 km segment of the Lagos-Sango-Otta-Abeokuta road, a vital corridor that has suffered from significant neglect over the years.
This initiative was announced on Wednesday in a statement from Uchenna Orji, the Special Adviser on Media to the Minister of Works. Orji highlighted the government’s dedication to tackling critical infrastructure challenges impacting commuters.
“The road has been in poor condition for quite some time, and the Federal Ministry of Works is stepping in to address the damaged sections alongside the concessionaire,” he stated.
This repair effort is part of the larger ‘Operation Free Our Roads’ initiative, which aims to improve federal road conditions across the country.
Orji emphasized, “Under the leadership of His Excellency, Sen. Engr. Nweze David Umahi CON, the Federal Ministry of Works is focused on providing relief to all motorists and commuters using federal highways nationwide.”
He acknowledged the frustrations expressed by motorists and local residents regarding the road’s state, which has resulted in longer travel times and heightened safety risks.
“With these emergency repairs now in progress, the government seeks to restore efficient transit for the thousands who depend on this essential route every day,” he concluded.
