The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has expressed his condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent building collapse in Ibadan.

In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Olugbemiga Ayoade, the monarch described the incident as troubling and unfortunate.

 

The online reports shows  that the collapse occurred in the Jegede area of Ona Ara Local Government on Thursday, resulting in the deaths of approximately ten individuals, with several others injured.

 

Oba Olakulehin extended his sympathies to the families of the deceased and all those impacted by the tragedy. He called on the state government and relevant stakeholders to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

 

Expressing his distress over the situation, the monarch urged agencies such as the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the State Emergency Management Agency to provide essential relief materials to those affected.

 

In his statement, he said, “The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Olakulehin, expresses his condolences to the victims and families involved in the building collapse that occurred in Ibadan on Thursday.

 

“Reports indicate that around ten lives were lost due to this unfortunate event, with many others sustaining injuries in the Jegede area.

 

“This incident is deeply saddening and warrants a comprehensive investigation. We must work to ensure such tragedies do not recur in Ibadanland. It is crucial for the agencies responsible for building construction and urban planning to fulfill their duties to prevent future incidents.

 

“I urge construction and planning experts to ensure that proper materials are utilized and all safety protocols are adhered to throughout the building process in Ibadanland.

 

“I also appeal to NEMA, the State Emergency Management Agency, and other stakeholders to swiftly provide relief supplies to the victims and their families.

 

“Furthermore, I call on professionals to extend necessary support to those still undergoing treatment and their loved ones.

 

“It is my prayer that Ibadanland, Oyo State, and Nigeria will continue to safeguard lives and properties during my reign. Amen,” he concluded.
