Itel Brings New Life to Kaduna Primary Health Centre With Solar Power and Essential Facility Upgrades

In a timely intervention that underscores the power of corporate responsibility, itel has once again demonstrated its commitment to community development by renovating a Primary Health Care Centre in Makera South, Kaduna State. The initiative, carried out under the company’s annual Love Always On Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, has restored hope to healthcare workers and residents who rely on the facility for essential medical services.

The 2025 edition of the CSR project, themed “Light of Hope: Restoring Health and Brightening Lives in Kaduna,” was officially commissioned on December 13. It involved a comprehensive facelift of the Makera South Primary Health Care Centre, transforming it into a more functional, comfortable, and reliable healthcare environment. The renovation included full repainting of the facility, provision of hospital beds, mattresses, pillows, bedsheets, and mosquito nets, as well as the installation of a modern solar power system designed to guarantee uninterrupted electricity.

At the heart of the upgrade is a robust solar solution made up of a 16-kWh battery, a 12-kW inverter, and 18 high-capacity solar panels rated at 590 watts each. This system ensures a stable power supply for critical medical operations such as nighttime consultations, emergency care, vaccine storage, and routine procedures that previously suffered from frequent power outages. By adopting clean and renewable energy, the project directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy).

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Dolapo Oloron-Nimbe, ATL Marketing Manager at itel, explained that the project reflects the brand’s core philosophy of improving everyday life. According to her, itel’s guiding principle, “Enjoy Better Life,” goes beyond products and services to include meaningful social impact. She noted that the festive season provided a fitting opportunity to give back, adding that the initiative was designed to restore dignity, comfort, and confidence to patients and healthcare workers alike.

Shirley SHI, Marketing Manager at itel Energy, emphasized the importance of reliable electricity in healthcare delivery, particularly in underserved communities. She explained that power outages can be life-threatening in medical settings and that the solar installation ensures doctors and nurses can work without disruption, especially during emergencies. The intervention, she said, is a practical demonstration of how sustainable energy solutions can directly improve healthcare outcomes.

The itel PR Supervisor also reaffirmed the company’s long-term commitment to consistent community engagement. Describing the Makera South project as the fourth CSR initiative executed by itel in 2025 alone, the supervisor stressed that true development comes from sustained action rather than one-off gestures. The visible joy among community members, he noted, was proof that the initiative would have lasting impact well beyond the holiday season.

Community leaders were quick to express their appreciation. In a formal letter, the Chairman of the Ward Development Committee, Alhaji Bello Tanko, thanked itel for selecting the health centre for its CSR intervention. He highlighted the significance of the solar power installation, noting that vaccine storage within Kaduna South Local Government Area had long been a challenge due to unreliable electricity. With the new system in place, immunization services are expected to improve significantly.

Similarly, the District Head of Makera, Alhaji Shehu Tijjani of the Chiroma Zazzau District, presented an award of appreciation to itel in recognition of the renovation, donation of essential medical materials, and installation of the solar power system. He described the project as a vital contribution to grassroots healthcare development.

The Kaduna project is part of a broader pattern of social investment by itel throughout 2025. Earlier in the year, the company commissioned an electric borehole in Brigade Gama Kasuwar Takari, Kano State. On Children’s Day, it donated learning materials to 51 schools nationwide. In September, it carried out a Back-to-School initiative at Omolaiye Community Primary School in Ikorodu, and in October partnered with the Lagos Food Bank Initiative to distribute food items and educational materials to pupils in communities in Rivers State.

With these initiatives, itel continues to reinforce its image as a people-focused brand dedicated to bridging social gaps, empowering communities, and improving quality of life. The renovation of the Makera South Primary Health Care Centre stands as a clear reminder that when corporate responsibility is thoughtfully executed, it can deliver real, measurable change where it is needed most.
