Kamala Devi Harris was born in California, United States on October 20, 1964 to Donald Harris and Shyamala Gopalan Harris.
Her mother was a breast cancer scientist while her father worked at Stanford University as a professor of economics. Growing up, she was very close to her grandmother, an Indian diplomat named P. V. Gopolan.
