Kolu Appeals to Carter Efe for ₦7 Million to Secure Portable’s Release
Popular media personality and content creator, Kolu, has publicly appealed to fellow entertainer Carter Efe for a ₦7 million loan to help secure the release of controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable. The appeal followed Portable’s recent arrest by the police over allegations reportedly bordering on assault and related offences.
The plea was made during a live Twitch stream that has since gone viral across social media platforms. In the broadcast, Kolu openly asked Carter Efe to assist him financially so that Portable could meet his bail conditions and regain his freedom. The unusual public request immediately drew attention, not only because of the amount involved but also due to Portable’s long history of controversies and run-ins with law enforcement.
During the conversation, Carter Efe questioned why Kolu appeared deeply invested in Portable’s predicament, given the singer’s repeated clashes with authorities and the public. In response, Kolu became emotional as he explained that Portable played a significant role in shaping his life and career. According to him, the singer was instrumental in bringing him to Lagos and giving him the exposure that led to his breakthrough in the entertainment space.
“Portable brought me to Lagos, I come blow. Na him help my life,” Kolu said, emphasizing that he could not abandon someone who once opened doors for him, regardless of present circumstances. He added that loyalty and gratitude should not be selective, insisting that helping Portable was a personal obligation rooted in appreciation rather than endorsement of the singer’s controversial lifestyle.
Kolu’s appeal quickly generated mixed reactions online. While some Nigerians applauded him for standing by someone who once supported him, others questioned why Portable, a successful and well-known artist, could not raise ₦7 million to secure his own bail. The situation reignited discussions around celebrity responsibility, financial management, and repeated brushes with the law.
Reacting to the video clip, a social media user, @Hakeem_Onitolo, expressed support for Kolu’s stance, noting that loyalty should endure even when relationships become complicated. Another user, @Holuwarosemail, praised Kolu for acknowledging Portable’s role in his success, stating that many people would have denied such help simply because of Portable’s public image.
On the other hand, several commenters mocked the situation, with some questioning the legitimacy of a ₦7 million bail and others criticizing Portable for what they described as a reckless and self-destructive lifestyle. Some users also argued that bail is legally supposed to be free, raising concerns about the circumstances surrounding the singer’s detention.
Portable, who is known for his erratic behavior, outspoken nature, and frequent altercations with authorities, has once again found himself at the center of public scrutiny. His arrest has reopened debates about discipline, accountability, and the pressures of fame within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
As of the time of filing this report, Carter Efe has not publicly confirmed whether he will grant Kolu’s request. Meanwhile, the incident continues to trend online, with Nigerians divided between applauding loyalty and questioning why repeated controversies continue to define Portable’s career rather than his music.
