Mother Of Whitney Houston Dies At The Age Of 91
Cissy Houston, Whitney Houston’s mother and Grammy-winning vocalist, died at the age of 91.
Houston’s death on Monday morning (October 7) comes 12 years after Whitney’s untimely death at the age of 48 from accidental drowning in 2012. Houston died in her New Jersey home while receiving hospice care for Alzheimer’s disease, her daughter-in-law Pat Houston told The Associated Press.
“Our hearts are heavy with anguish and sadness. “We have lost the matriarch of our family,” Pat stated in a statement.
“Mother Cissy has been a powerful and towering presence in our lives. A woman of strong faith and conviction who prioritised family, ministry, and community.
Her more than seven-decade career in music and entertainment will be remembered fondly.
Houston, born Emily Drinkard in 1933 in Newark, New Jersey, began her singing career at the age of five in 1938 with her siblings Anne, Larry, and Nicky, when they established the gospel singing group The Drinkard Four.
