Nigerians have rejected you, Wike slams Atiku

Wike and Atiku

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has labeled Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, a “serial loser.”

Reports indicate that Atiku, a former Vice President, praised the resilient citizens of Rivers State for their determination to ensure that the elections were conducted peacefully and with integrity. On his social media account, he also commended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his steadfast dedication to the community, maintaining the integrity of the local government elections despite facing significant challenges.

Atiku remarked, “With the local government elections in Rivers State now concluded, the era of political intimidation and judicial manipulation has ended, allowing for genuine governance to take root in the state. From the vibrant city of Port Harcourt to the serene shores of Onne, the people have united in their voices, reaffirming the importance of democracy. As anticipated, it has become clear that the citizens of Rivers are wise and resolute, firmly opposing any form of political coercion or exploitation by self-serving elites.”

In response to Atiku’s comments during a luncheon honoring the 10th Rivers State Assembly on Saturday, Wike argued that Atiku has lost his political significance. The former governor pointed out that Nigerians have consistently rejected Atiku, who has run for the presidency in both 2019 and 2023 without success.

Wike stated, “We did not participate in the local government elections. Did we contest? Did we even obtain a form? I hear Atiku saying, ‘Oh, they have rejected me in Rivers State.’ Fine, but if he has lost so many times, it shows that Nigerians have also turned their backs on him. If you claim to have lost an election we did not contest, that indicates rejection. You, who have run and failed miserably, have also been rejected by Nigerians; it’s time for you to go home.”
