Pedram “P.J.” Javaheri was born on May 24, 1983, in Tehran, Iran, and lived in the country of his birth before moving to the United States with his Iranian-Turkish parents when he was 10 years old.

Growing up, Pedram was quickly introduced to a life of studying and talking about the weather as his father’s father and his mother’s father were both meteorologists. It has been said that he found his love for studying the weather by listening to his two grandfathers.

After his family emigrated from Iran to Redmond, Washington, in the United States in October 1993, Pedram joined an elementary school in Redmond and also completed his high school in the same town before going for his tertiary education.

He proceeded to at Mesa Community College and Arizona State University for advanced knowledge after which he enrolled in Mississippi State University, graduating with degrees in broadcast journalism and meteorology.

In 2002 while studying at Arizona State University, Javaheri began working as a weather anchor and helped the school develop its first weather department at NewsWatch TV, a school news program aired throughout the State of Arizona.

A week before his graduation from Arizona State University, he accepted a job as a meteorologist at KCSG in Utah. It didn’t take a while before he got promoted to the position of the chief meteorologist and was placed in charge of supervising all weather operations.

In 2008, he was hired by a duopoly station in California’s Central Coast to serve as the environmental presenter and report the weather as a meteorologist for KION,  KCOY, KKFX, and KCBA. He had an audience of more than 500,000 television households during that time.

While in California, he covered several noteworthy events. In 2008, he was live on the scene of the Complex Fire in Big Sur, the second dearest wildfire in United States history. In June 2009, he became the only press officer in the market to cover the memorial service of pop legend Michael Jackson at the Staples Center after winning a lottery to attend it.

Javaheri was a member of the CNN weather team that received the esteemed Peabody Award for its reportage of the Deepwater Horizon oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010.

On March 11, 2011, following the devastating Japanese earthquake, Javaheri and CNN United States meteorologist Chad Myers became the first pair in CNN’s history to concurrently forecast and cover the resulting tsunami and the impact of the natural disaster to a global audience.
