The Rivers State Police Command has taken into custody three female inspectors accused of extorting motorists at the Rumuokoro area of Obio/Akpor Local Government. This action follows a surge of complaints on social media regarding the conduct of these officers.

The arrest occurred on Tuesday during a coordinated patrol by the Commissioner of Police’s team. Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, shared the news in a statement released in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.

According to Iringe-Koko, the officers’ illicit activities were documented on video by a bystander, providing clear evidence of their misconduct. She condemned their behavior as unprofessional, particularly noting that they were not in uniform at the time.

The statement detailed, “The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three officers as a result of a coordinated monitoring operation by the Commissioner of Police team on October 29, 2024.

The operation, which took place under the Rumuokoro Flyover around 3 PM, led to the arrests of Inspectors Sarah Anendei, Caroline Promise, and Christiana Jatau, who were caught engaging in corrupt practices against unsuspecting motorists. Notably, Inspectors Promise and Jatau were out of uniform during this incident, breaching police protocol.”

The misconduct was recorded on video, and during the on-site investigation, the officers were searched, and the money taken from the motorists was recovered, demonstrating a prompt response to uphold ethical standards within the Rivers State Police Command.

Iringe-Koko confirmed that the officers are now in custody and await disciplinary action. “The Rivers State Police Command reaffirms its dedication to professional integrity and assures the public that any personnel found violating service principles will face consequences.”
