Reekado Banks whose full name is Ayoleyi, Hanniel Solomon, remains one of the best Nigerian musicians. He is a singer, songwriter, stage performer, actor, and recording artist. Reekado Banks started his music career with MAVIN records, where he was groomed and polished into a successful and chart topping artist. He left MAVIN in 2018 at the expiration of his contract to set up his own label and has been pushing his music on his own terms. Banks is one of the best vocalist in the Nigerian music industry and his quality and distinct voice sets him apart from his peers.

REEKADO BANKS BIOGRAPHY

Reekado Banks  whose real name is Ayoleyi Solomon, was born on the 6th of December in the year 1993. He is originally from Ondo state in Nigeria. He is born to a Christian family of which his father is a pastor and his mum a caterer, both are based in Ondo State.

His sister is a gospel singer while his brother is a music producer. He is the last child in his family. He did his primary and secondary education and finished at the age of fourteen.

Reekado finished his tertiary education at the University of Lagos with Bachelor’s degree in History and Strategic Study. He began composing and writing songs during his secondary days.

At first, his brother served as his music producer until he got signed to Mavin Records and Don Jazzy became his music producer. His first single was done under his brother before he joined Mavin Records.

He has cited the likes of Tuface Idibia, Don Jazzy, M.I and Olamide as his role models and continuous source of inspiration. He formed his staged name, Reekado Banks; the first name Reekado translates to “strong ruler” while the latter part means “wealth.” Before getting signed with Mavins Records, he was called “Spicy.”

His record deal with Mavins Records came as a result of the submission of some of his songs by his brother into an online talent search. He was selected out of well over 5000 entries. According to Reekado Banks, in an interview with the National Mirrors, this submission was made without his prior knowledge. With his contract in 2014, Reekado premiered in a single with Tiwa Savage in a song titled “Turn it up.” He has also featured with many of his label mates including Koredo Bello, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Dija, D’Prince, Dr. SID in many collaborations such as the “Dorubucci” single in 2014.

Some other collaborations with his label mates include: “Looku looku,” Arise,” Adoabi” etc.

In 2015, Reekado and Don Jazzy made a hit single called “Katapult” which was alleged to be a diss track towards D’banj and Wande Coal. These resulted in a series of tweets, which were debunked by Don Jazzy. In 2017, Reekado Banks also released a hit single “Easy Jeje” which was said to have topped many charts in Nigeria.

  • In 2015, he also won “video of the year” for the music video of his song “katapult” at the Headies Awards.

  • In 2016, he received awards for “Best Album” and “Revelation of the Year” at the Headies 2016 & 2017 Awards respectively.
