Folasade Olayinka Baderinwa was born on April 14, 1969, in Baltimore, Maryland, in the United States. Her mother was German while her father was Nigerian.

When she was seven years, her mother stopped being a part of her life and she was left in her father’s custody. Her father later left the United States and moved back to Africa, leaving her under the care of a family friend.

Sade was subsequently adopted by WBAL-TV anchor Edie House in Baltimore, and his parents also provided supplementary support.

When she was 12, Sade’s biological mother came for her and took her in to live with her family in Montgomery County. She has since continued to keep contact with her adoptive family as well as her biological parents.

Earlier in her career, Baderinwa started out as a production assistant for various programs on ABC News, including ‘News One’, ‘World News Tonight, ‘This Week With David Brinkley, and ‘Nightline’.

She went on to become a journalist trainee at WUSA-TV, the affiliate of CBS in Washington, D.C., before joining WSLS-TV, the affiliate of NBC in Roanoke, Virginia as a reporter.

In February 2000 Baderinwa found employment at WBAL-TV, the NBC affiliate in Baltimore. There, she hosted the morning and noon newscasts and anchored a weekly community affairs show as well.

In 2003, she moved on to WABC-TV as an anchor and reporter for the noon newscast of the station before joining Diana Williams as co-host of the 5 p.m. newscast.

On the evening of 23 July 2004, while preparing a story on location at Hudson Street in Hackensack, New Jersey about a local flood, Sade was struck by a driver who drove through police lines, and was left unconscious following the collision.

The hit-and-run driver in the collision was never apprehended. After undergoing several surgeries and many months of physical therapy, the journalist returned on-air on 13 December 2004 but continued to receive physical therapy five times every week following her return.

To correct her looks, she reportedly underwent plastic surgeries as the tragedy left her deeply injured. On October 27, 2006, she appeared as a guest co-host on the television show ‘The View’.

In May 2011, she joined Bill Ritter as a co-anchor of the 11 p.m. newscast, replacing Liz Cho, who left the slot vacant following her move to anchor the new 4 p.m newscast of the station, which debuted at the end of ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show.
