Born and raised in Miami, Tony Dokoupil is one of the children of Anthony Edward Dokoupil and Ann Dokoupil. Theirs was a wealthy family, so he never lacked anything while growing up.

He attended private schools along with the grandchildren of former United States President George Bush. He also went on luxurious vacation and was given everything a boy his age would ever need.

However, his life change when everything around him collapsed following the revelation that his parents were drug addicts who had become wealthy through involvement with South American drug cartels.

Tony was 10 when his father whom he had believed was a real estate agent left the family. Therefore, he moved to Maryland with his mother and lived there for some time.

He attended Severna Park High School in Maryland and graduated in 1999 before moving to the School of Business at George Washington University. In 2003, he graduated with a BBA degree in Communications and Marketing.

Thereafter, he joined Columbia University to further his education, and graduated from there with his MA degree in American Studies. One year later, Tony received a scholarship to complete his Ph.D. in Media Studies. However, he quit halfway to pursue his professional career in journalism.

After abandoning his Ph.D. scholarship, Tony Dokoupil started his career in the field of journalism in 2004. He got an offer to work as a part-time journalist and writer in the Periscope section for Newsweek Magazine, and he took this opportunity with pride and started doing his job to the best of his capability.

His employees were pleased with his efforts and he was subsequently promoted to the position of senior writer three years after joining the organization. He was concurrently recruited by The Daily Beast to carry out the duties of a senior writer as well.

Thanks to his hard work, a 32-year-old Tony was offered a job at NBC News in 2013, where he worked as a contributor until 2015 when he switched allegiance to the MSNBC network to serve as the company’s national reporter and correspondent.

His stint at MSNBC lasted until 2016, and during that period, Tony covered a lot of events and stories, including the Paris Climate Change Agreement, the Flint Water Crisis, and the US Presidential primaries, among others.

In August 2016, he moved on to CBS News and has been the company’s correspondent ever since. He has worked on the “CBS Sunday Morning” program and is currently a co-host of the program “CBS This Morning”, alongside Gayle King and Anthony Mason.

After Tony was hired at MSNBC, he met Katy Tur in a make-up room in 2015 and asked for a date. Two years later, they became engaged and subsequently got married in a small ceremony held on 27 October 2017 in Utah. Together, they have a son named Theodore Dokoupil who was born in April 2019.

His wife, Katherine Bear ‘Katy’ Tur, is also a reporter by profession. She is the daughter of renowned American broadcast reporter Robert Albert Tur, and his ex-wife Marika Gerrard, a journalist as well. In 2014, Robert Tur underwent hormone replacement therapy and announced the change of his name to Hanna Zoey Tur.

Tony Dokoupil is a lover of sports and games. In his spare time, he enjoys playing baseball, since he was once an outfielder and a former captain of the Colonials while he was studying at George Washington University.
