Veteran Yoruba Actor, Olumo Dies At Age 101

The Nigerian film industry and Yoruba cultural community are mourning the loss of legendary actor Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, often known as Agbako, who died at the age of 101.

The iconic actor, whose career made an indelible effect on Nigerian cinema, passed away early Thursday morning after a brief bout of exhaustion.

Mr Latin, President of the Theatre Arts and Motion Pictures Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), confirmed his departure on Instagram.

Without disclosing the circumstances of his death, Mr Latin stated that Agbako’s family and association would shortly release his funeral information.

@tampanglobal announces the passing of Pa Charles Olumo Sanyaolu, fondly known as AGBAKO. Details of the burial arrangements will be shared at a later time. Good night father, 25/02/1923 to 31/10/2024,” he wrote.

The news was further confirmed by Nollywood veteran Jide Kosoko, prompting a wave of condolences from actors, filmmakers, and fans across Nigeria and beyond.

Not long ago, Muyiwa Ademola petitions Guinness World Records for timely acknowledgement of his senior colleague, Charles Olumo a.k.a. Agbako, as he turns 100.

Muyiwa Ademola took to Instagram to share a video celebrating the actor’s 100th birthday on July 9th, 2022.

The video also featured the appearance of another senior actress, Idowu Philips, well known as Mama Rainbow, as well as a group of brilliant singers celebrating Agbako’s astounding 100th birthday.

While posting the video, Muyiwa Ademola pleaded with Guinness World Records to give Agbako the prestigious title of the oldest and most agile Nigerian film actor.
