What is the TISSF?

The Tertiary Institutions Staff Support Fund (TISSF) is a Federal Government intervention programme designed to provide financial support to workers in public tertiary institutions.

The scheme is administered by the Bank of Industry (BOI) and allows eligible staff members to access loans without paying interest.

The programme was introduced to help education workers meet important personal and professional financial needs while improving their overall welfare and productivity.

Up to ₦10 Million Interest-Free Loan Available

The Federal Ministry of Education said the initiative remains part of ongoing efforts to support workers in the education sector and reduce the financial challenges faced by many staff members.

Official figures show that public universities accounted for 52 percent of the total disbursements, while colleges of education received 25 percent and polytechnics accounted for 23 percent.

The Ministry also noted that female beneficiaries represented 19 percent of successful applicants during the last application cycle.

To improve participation, especially among underrepresented groups, the government said additional sensitisation and awareness campaigns will be carried out during the upcoming phase.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the programme as part of his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of workers under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to the President, strengthening the welfare of education workers is essential to building a stronger tertiary education system capable of supporting teaching, research and innovation.

He said the intervention is helping to reduce financial pressure on workers while supporting the people responsible for developing the nation’s future workforce.

Education Minister Speaks on TISSF

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, described the TISSF as an important component of the Federal Government’s education reform efforts.
