Nigerians searching for information about the ₦50,000 National Support Allowance have received an important update from the Federal Government following the circulation of registration messages on social media.

The update comes after application links and posts claiming that Nigerians could register for the programme began spreading across platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook, prompting many people to seek clarification.

According to the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, the ministry has become aware of the messages currently making the rounds online and has now addressed the issue.

In a statement issued by the ministry, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, said the information being circulated does not reflect any programme approved by the ministry.

The ministry explained that it has not authorized any registration exercise, website or online application for a ₦50,000 National Support Allowance and advised Nigerians to disregard the messages.

It also warned members of the public against clicking on links attached to the posts or submitting personal information through any website claiming to be registering applicants for the programme.

The ministry urged Nigerians to avoid sharing sensitive information such as their Bank Verification Number (BVN), National Identification Number (NIN), bank account details or other personal records with unknown websites or individuals promoting the registration.

It further stressed that applicants should not make payments to anyone claiming to facilitate registration or guarantee access to the supposed allowance.

According to the ministry, all genuine intervention programmes, grants and social investment initiatives are announced only through its official communication channels and recognised government platforms.

The statement also encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious websites, social media pages or individuals falsely claiming to represent the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.

How to Avoid Fake Government Registration Links

As interest in Federal Government grants and empowerment programmes continues to grow, fraudsters often create fake registration portals to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.

Before applying for any government programme, consider the following precautions:

  • Verify announcements through official government websites and verified social media accounts.
  • Ignore registration links shared through unverified WhatsApp groups or unofficial Facebook pages.
  • Never pay money to anyone promising to secure a government grant or allowance.
  • Avoid submitting your BVN, NIN, ATM details or passwords on websites you cannot verify.
  • Cross-check information through trusted news platforms before completing any application.
