The Nigerian Army has opened applications for the Short Service Combatant Commission (SSCC) Course 50/2027.
The recruitment is open to eligible Nigerian civilians and serving military personnel who meet the required conditions.
Successful applicants will undergo military training and, after completing the programme, may be commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Nigerian Army.
Applicants can be considered for positions in the Combat Arms, including the Infantry and Armour Corps, or the Combat Support Arms such as Artillery, Engineers, Signals and Intelligence Corps.
The application is completely free. Applicants are advised not to pay anyone to obtain the form or secure a place in the recruitment exercise.
What the Nigerian Army SSCC Recruitment Is About
The Short Service Combatant Commission is an officer recruitment programme through which qualified Nigerians are trained and commissioned into the Nigerian Army.
Candidates who successfully complete the required training will be granted the rank of Second Lieutenant.
The commission is for 15 years, with an initial 10-year period on the active list. The active service period may be renewed for up to another five years, subject to the conditions of service.
Nigerian Army SSCC Recruitment Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements before submitting their applications:
- Must be a Nigerian citizen by birth as provided under the 1999 Constitution.
- Must be between 23 and 27 years old by January 10, 2027.
- Must be medically and physically fit according to Nigerian Army standards.
- Must have at least a Second Class Lower degree or HND with a minimum of Lower Credit from an accredited institution.
- The qualification must be in Arts, Sciences or Humanities.
- Only tertiary qualifications obtained from 2018 to date will be considered.
- Civilian applicants must have a valid NYSC discharge certificate, while serving military personnel must have an NYSC exemption certificate.
- Must have a valid birth certificate endorsed by the National Population Commission, hospital or Local Government Council.
- Must have a valid certificate of state of origin.
- Civilian applicants must provide recommendations from at least two recognised referees. The referees must be Local Government Chairmen/Secretaries or serving Army officers not below the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
- Must provide a Letter of Attestation from the institution that awarded the applicant’s degree.
- Must be at least 1.68 metres tall for males and 1.65 metres for females.
- Must not have been convicted by a court of law.
- Must not belong to any cult, secret society or fraternity.
- Must not have tattoos or body inscriptions.
- Must have the original copies of educational certificates from primary school through tertiary level.
Additional Requirements for Serving Military Personnel
Serving members of the Armed Forces applying for the SSCC Course 50/2027 must also meet additional conditions.
They must have served for at least five years in the Armed Forces.
They will also be required to provide a valid military identity card, a recommendation letter from their Commanding Officer and valid sponsorship letters from the tertiary institutions they attended.

- Recent passport photograph
- Educational certificate for the qualification being used for the application
- Certificate of state of origin
- Birth certificate or age declaration
- NIN slip
- BVN slip
