The Federal Government has opened applications for a free three-week Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Installation Training for Nigerians interested in building skills and careers in the renewable energy sector.
The training is being offered in collaboration with Siemens Energy and the German development agency GIZ under the Siemens Energy Education and Development project, known as SEED.
The programme is also supported by the Nigerian Energy Support Programme, which is co-funded by the European Union and the German Government and implemented by GIZ.
Participants will receive theoretical training, practical hands-on sessions, technical site visits and competency assessments.
Those who successfully complete the programme will also receive COREN certification.
The training and certification are provided free of charge.
Applications close at 4pm on September 18, 2026.
Who Can Apply for the Solar Training?
The programme is open to a wide range of applicants, including people who already have experience in solar installation as well as beginners who want to build a career in renewable energy.
You can apply if you are:
- A professional or technician interested in solar installation
- A young person interested in renewable energy
- A recent graduate
- A National Diploma (ND) holder
- A Higher National Diploma (HND) holder
- An undergraduate
- A young professional in a relevant field
- Someone with practical experience in solar or related technical work
- Someone without formal education or previous practical experience who is interested in the sector
This means applicants do not necessarily need previous solar installation experience or formal education to be considered.
However, applicants must be able to attend the training physically.
Where Will the Training Take Place?
The training will be conducted at physical training centres in:
- Lagos
- Abeokuta, Ogun State
Each training stream will run for three weeks and participants are expected to attend the sessions in person.
Applicants will be asked to indicate their preferred training location when completing the Expression of Interest form.
You should therefore only apply if you can make yourself available for the required three-week onsite training.
What Will You Learn?
The programme is designed to combine classroom learning with practical experience.
Participants will receive:
- Theoretical instruction
- Hands-on practical training
- Technical site visits
- Competency assessments
The practical aspect is particularly important for applicants who want to develop actual solar installation skills rather than only gain theoretical knowledge.
Participants who successfully complete the programme will also receive COREN certification.
Is the Solar Training Really Free?
Yes.
The organisers stated that training and certification will be provided free of charge.
Meals will also be provided on training days.
However, applicants should note that accommodation and transportation are not provided.
This means participants will be responsible for getting themselves to the training centre and arranging where they will stay if they live outside the location of their selected training centre.
Applicants should consider this before submitting their Expression of Interest.
What Information Do You Need to Apply?
Applicants will be required to provide basic personal information, including:
- Full name
- Gender
- Phone number
- Email address
- Preferred training location
You will also be asked about your availability to attend the full three-week training in person.
The application also requires information about your educational and professional background, including your highest level of education, employment status, work experience and sector of employment.
Applicants with formal educational backgrounds will be required to upload their most recent CV and relevant degree, diploma or other qualification certificates.
How to Apply for the Free Solar Training
Interested applicants should complete the official Expression of Interest form online before the deadline.
Application deadline: September 18, 2026, at 4pm.
Apply here: https://t.co/DW2bdqQZYH
When completing the form, provide accurate information about your education, work experience and professional background.
You should also select a training location you can realistically attend because the programme is conducted onsite.
What You Should Know Before Applying
This is a three-week physical training programme, not an online course.
Applicants must be available to attend the training in person.
The training and certification are free, and meals are provided during training days, but the organisers will not provide accommodation or transportation.
The opportunity is therefore particularly useful for Nigerians who want to gain practical solar installation skills, improve their technical knowledge or explore a career in the growing renewable energy sector.
The combination of classroom instruction, practical sessions, site visits and competency assessment also gives participants an opportunity to gain experience beyond simply completing an online course.
With the training deadline approaching, eligible applicants should complete the Expression of Interest form before 4pm on September 18, 2026.
