“We’ve Enjoyed Nigeria So Much!” — Black American Tourists Praise Lagos Experience

Two middle-aged Black American women visiting from Atlanta, Georgia, have shared their excitement and satisfaction after spending time in Lagos, Nigeria — describing their experience as “far above expectations.”

In a short video that has since gone viral on social media, the women could be seen beaming with joy as they reflected on their trip.
“We’ve enjoyed Nigeria so much! Everything has been above our expectations,” one of the women said enthusiastically.

Their comments have sparked a wave of conversation online, with many Nigerians reacting to the foreigners’ positive remarks about the country — particularly at a time when the nation is often portrayed negatively in international media.

The video, first shared by YouTube user Kemetian, has attracted thousands of views and inspired mixed reactions on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Nairaland. Many Nigerians expressed pride in hearing outsiders speak fondly about their homeland, while others offered more skeptical takes.

“Nigerians Are Special People” — Reactions Trail Video

User CoronaVirusPro praised the visitors’ remarks, saying the women were simply reacting to the warmth and energy that defines Nigerian society.

“If you’ve lived the Western life all your life, there’s no way you won’t appreciate the Nigerian spirit,” the commenter wrote. “Our energy and companionship are different. Nigerians are special kinds of people — we light up any place with love and community.”

Another user, Kemetian, who posted the original clip, said it was refreshing to see Nigeria “from the perspective of outsiders.”

“We take so many things for granted in this country,” he added. “It’s always good to see foreigners appreciating the things we often overlook.”

However, not everyone agreed. Some users claimed the women’s views were influenced by their brief stay or by the privileges that come with spending foreign currency in a country where the naira has weakened sharply against the dollar.

“When you come with dollars, everyone treats you like a VIP,” wrote chidiokay. “What you buy with $50 in Nigeria will overwhelm you — that’s why it all feels so good.”

Others responded humorously, with one commenter warning the visitors to “be careful not to get kidnapped,” while another joked that the women “must have enjoyed Nigerian hospitality in every way possible.”

Pride Amid Criticism

Despite the humorous and critical reactions, many Nigerians said the women’s message should be seen as a positive reflection of the country’s cultural appeal and growing tourism potential.

User Abdul05 summed it up best:

“Everyone can’t see things the same way. But if foreigners say Nigeria has improved, it means some progress is happening. Change takes time — rebuilding a country isn’t instant.”

The video has since become part of a broader conversation about how Nigeria is perceived internationally — and how its citizens, despite economic and social challenges, continue to project resilience, warmth, and pride that visitors from around the world often find unforgettable.
