Prominent educator and Asiwaju of Osogboland, Ajadi Badmus, has passed away at the age of 83. Reports indicate that Badmus died in the early hours of Sunday in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed his sorrow over Badmus’s death, calling it “an unfortunate loss at a time when Osogbo is experiencing significant growth, aligned with the vision of the late educator.” The governor extended his condolences to the Ataoja of Osogbo in Council and the entire Osogbo community.

Adeleke praised Badmus as an “extraordinary advocate for development,” highlighting his passionate commitment to effecting change and his relentless efforts to promote growth in both the state capital and the broader region. He noted that over the past two years, Badmus had been a vital force behind various growth initiatives, driving industrial and social development in Osun State.

The governor recalled Badmus’s instrumental role in launching several federal and state projects, stating, “As a leader of his community, the late Asiwaju frequently reached out to me, urging the advancement of various projects for the benefit of his people.” He emphasized Badmus’s dedication to making Osogbo a welcoming home for all residents of Osun.

Adeleke remarked that his administration recognizes and embraces Badmus’s governance philosophy, committing to the systematic enhancement of the state capital and key towns. He described Badmus as a counselor for the public good and a public-spirited individual who lived true to his title as Asiwaju of Osogbo Land.

The governor expressed regret that Badmus did not live to see the inauguration of the modern flyovers in Osogbo, a project they had planned together. He noted that Badmus consistently monitored the progress of these projects and conveyed the community’s gratitude for the substantial infrastructure improvements.

In memory of the late educator, Adeleke vowed to ensure the completion of all ongoing projects in Osogbo, stating his intent to further elevate the state capital. “Our government will also work towards initiating federal projects already slated for the capital, ensuring that the dreams of late Asiwaju come to fruition,” he affirmed.

Adeleke concluded his statement by offering heartfelt condolences to the royal family of Osogbo, the Badmus family, and all those mourning the loss. “We take comfort in the remarkable legacy of service that Chief Badmus has left behind. He will be remembered as a selfless leader dedicated to community service and altruistic advocacy for the welfare of the people,” he added.
