The programme is designed to equip Nigerian artisans with modern, industry-relevant and technology-driven skills that meet current global standards while improving productivity, employability and business growth opportunities.

Through the programme, millions of artisans are expected to benefit from technical training, professional certification, licensing and access to opportunities that can help them build sustainable careers and businesses.

What is the Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) Programme?

The Skill-Up Artisans (SUPA) Programme is a national skills development initiative created to strengthen Nigeria’s artisan workforce and close the growing skills gap in various sectors of the economy.

The programme focuses on identifying, training, certifying and licensing artisans while helping them acquire practical skills that align with modern industry requirements.

It forms part of the Federal Government’s broader strategy to promote vocational skills development, boost employment and support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Why the SUPA Programme Matters

Across Nigeria and many parts of the world, there is increasing demand for skilled artisans in sectors such as construction, electrical works, plumbing, welding, automobile maintenance, ICT and other technical trades.

However, many industries continue to face shortages of qualified artisans due to the growing preference for white-collar jobs.

The SUPA Programme seeks to address this challenge by creating a new generation of highly skilled artisans who can compete in both local and international markets.

The initiative will also help improve service quality, standardize professional practices and create pathways for entrepreneurship and self-employment.

Programme Objectives

The programme aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Identify, register and categorize artisans across different sectors.
  • Deliver Industry 4.0-compliant technical and vocational training.
  • Provide occupational health and safety training.
  • Promote artisan certification and licensing.
  • Improve access to modern tools and equipment.
  • Connect artisans to funding and empowerment opportunities.
  • Support the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises.
  • Enhance local and international employment opportunities.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to Nigerians who are interested in acquiring practical skills and improving their employability.

To qualify, applicants must:

  • Be a Nigerian citizen.
  • Be willing to learn any of the skills offered under the programme.
  • Be available to participate throughout the training period.

Both existing artisans seeking certification and individuals looking to learn new vocational skills are encouraged to apply.

Benefits of the SUPA Programme

Successful participants will enjoy several benefits, including:

1. Industry-Relevant Skills Training

Participants will receive practical and vocational training designed to meet current industry standards and labour market demands.

2. Professional Certification and Licensing

Upon successful completion, participants may obtain certifications and licenses that enhance their professional credibility and market value.
