Four bloggers re-arraigned over GTCO CEO cyberstalking
The Police have re-arraigned four bloggers—Precious Eze, Olawale Rotimi, Rowland Olonishuwa, and Seun Odunlami—on new charges before the Federal High Court in Lagos. They are accused of cyberstalking and disseminating false information via various social media platforms about Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO).
The bloggers are facing a total of 10 charges, including conspiracy, cyberstalking, false and misleading publications, extortion, threats, and actions that led to a decrease in shares and market value, as presented by the police.
Previously, on September 27, 2024, the defendants had been arraigned on two counts related to cyberstalking and making false publications aimed at insulting the CEO of GTCO, Segun Agbaje. Following their plea, Justice Ayokunle Faji ordered that they be remanded at the Correctional Centre.
In the new charges, the bloggers are alleged to have knowingly published false, misleading, and unverified claims against GTCO, its management, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and the broader Nigerian banking sector, with the intention of inciting chaos. The prosecution also stated that these allegations were designed to harm GTCO’s reputation and were used as a means of extortion.
Further details will be provided later.
