“It is a red flag if you call your pastor ‘Father’ ” – Leo Dasilva
Social media users have mixed reactions to reality personality Leo DaSilva’s outspoken criticism of Christians who call their pastors “Daddy,” “spiritual father,” and other such names.
Leo voiced his concern about such phrases, labelling them a “red flag,” in a post on the social media site X.
In his post, Leo questioned the necessity of using such personal terms for religious leaders, writing, “My Daddy, My Spiritual Daddy,’ my father in the Lord’ to describe your pastor is a red flag.”
Leo explained in a subsequent post that his two-year experience in theology school was a personal endeavour to get a deeper understanding of scripture.
He emphasised that a sincere love for God should motivate people to pursue knowledge on their own rather than depending on other people to sustain their faith.
“I spent two years in theology school to deepen my understanding of God’s word, not to become a preacher. “You will make an effort to learn more about God if you say you love him.”
Saying you love someone you don’t even know is equivalent to that. He went on, “Don’t be a sheep to everything.”
Reactions to Leo’s comments have been conflicted; some supporters support his support for autonomous religious inquiry, while others defend the loving titles as a sign of deference.
Leo DaSilva, an ex-BBNaija housemate, discusses his thoughts on the popular expression “Be a man,” which he feels is frequently used to quiet males and disregard their welfare.
He clarified in a post on X (previously Twitter) that the statement encourages males to overlook their mental health and repress their feelings in order to fit in with society’s standards, which in turn sets off toxic behaviour.
“The phrase ‘be a man’ is a ruse to silence men, disregard their joy, and incite poisonous behaviour,” he wrote.
Many of his followers found resonance in Leo Dasilva’s further emphasis on the significance of males putting their mental health and general well-being first.
“As a man, it’s acceptable for you to put your general and mental health first.”
