Kanayo Reacts To The Heavy Military Presence In The Eastern Region of Nigeria

The actor sat in a moving car and compared his trip from Ibadan to Lagos with the Southeast, where many checkpoints have become a source of annoyance for citizens, in a video that was uploaded to his Instagram account on October 23, 2024.

“I am here in Lagos at precisely 8:15, having left the Felele Olorunsogo neighbourhood of Ibadan this morning at 7:15.

One thing I discovered is that there was not a single police checkpoint throughout the 80 km. I also failed to spot an army checkpoint.

Have you ever driven the Onitsha Enugu checkpoint road and tallied how many military or police checkpoints there are? “He said.

He asked his audience, “I’m still on the road, I’m in Lagos now,” as he proceeded to go to the city. What causes the militarisation of the South East?

You can’t travel more than 200 kms without a checkpoint because it’s so policed?” Kanayo brought attention to a few of the problems that drivers have when navigating those highways with lots of checkpoints.”

“I need to ask this question because it’s important to draw attention to the delays in travel and the humiliation people endure,” he continued.”

There are numerous checkpoints along the same route between Enugu and Onitsa, I’m saying. People are so severely humiliated by them that they frequently ask everyone in the car to get out with their hands up.”

“Let us understand, is the south-east still part of Nigeria? Have the representatives seen the state of federal roads?” he asked.
