Kebbi Bloodbath: Bandits Ambush Troops, Kill Nine Soldiers and Police Officer, Torch Military Vehicles

A deadly ambush by armed bandits has claimed the lives of nine soldiers, one police officer, and several civilians in Giro Masa community, located in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The attack, which unfolded on Tuesday night, underscores the persistent security challenges facing parts of northern Nigeria.

Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, confirmed the tragic incident while addressing journalists after visiting victims at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Birnin Kebbi. The governor had toured both the mortuary and the Accident and Emergency unit, where survivors of the attack were receiving treatment.

According to available details, the attackers launched a coordinated assault on security operatives stationed in the area. The ambush resulted not only in multiple fatalities but also in the destruction of military assets, as the gunmen reportedly set two military gun trucks ablaze during the operation. “This is a sad incident,” the governor said. “These are the men who put their lives on the line for the safety of our people, yet they became victims themselves. We must continue to strengthen our resolve against these criminal elements.”

He assured that the Kebbi State Government would take full responsibility for the medical treatment of those injured in the attack. Additionally, he pledged that the families of the deceased security personnel would receive necessary support during this difficult time.

Governor Idris also reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving security across the state. He stressed that efforts would be intensified to curb the activities of bandits and restore confidence among residents. Following his hospital visit, the governor proceeded to the scene of the attack to conduct an on-the-spot assessment and engage with security agencies on the ground.
