Lagos Central Senatorial Aspirant Kola Lawal Revalidates APC Membership, Reaffirms Grassroots Commitment
Hon. Olumide Kola Lawal, popularly known as OKL, a Lagos Central Senatorial aspirant and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally revalidated his membership of the ruling party at his ward in Surulere Local Government Area of Lagos State. The exercise, which formed part of the ongoing APC membership revalidation and registration process, served as both a symbolic and strategic step in reinforcing his political alignment and commitment to the party’s progressive ideals.
The revalidation exercise attracted party members, loyalists, and grassroots supporters who converged at the ward secretariat to witness the process. For many observers, Lawal’s appearance and participation underscored the importance of party unity, internal democracy, and grassroots engagement ahead of future electoral contests in Lagos Central Senatorial District.
Speaking with journalists shortly after revalidating his membership, Lawal expressed satisfaction with the level of participation and enthusiasm displayed by party members. According to him, the impressive turnout was not limited to Surulere alone but reflected a wider consolidation of the APC across multiple wards within the Lagos Central axis.
“As I visited my ward to re-register my membership of the APC, I was encouraged by the impressive turnout and growing consolidation of both old and new members, not only in my ward in Surulere but also across several wards in Lagos Central Senatorial District,” Lawal stated. “This show of unity and commitment reflects the strength of our party at the grassroots.”
He emphasized that the APC’s enduring strength lies in its grassroots structure, noting that sustained engagement at the ward and local government levels remains critical to the party’s continued dominance in Lagos politics. Lawal added that reconnecting directly with party members through processes such as revalidation helps to reinforce trust, loyalty, and collective responsibility among stakeholders.
During the visit, Lawal also took time to interact with party faithful, commend long-standing loyalists, and encourage members to remain steadfast in their support for the APC. He urged them to continue mobilizing, strengthening party structures, and sustaining momentum as the party works towards consolidating its achievements in governance and electoral success.
“We used the opportunity to commend party loyalists and faithful, and to encourage them to remain steadfast, continue the good work, and sustain the momentum as we collectively work towards a stronger APC,” he said.
Supporters at the ward described Lawal as approachable and consistent, with some recalling past personal encounters and interactions that left positive impressions. One party member described him as a “very good guy,” offering prayers for his success and future political aspirations. Such expressions of goodwill, though informal, reflect the kind of personal connections that often play a significant role in grassroots politics.
However, the development also generated critical reactions from some quarters, particularly on social media. Some commentators questioned Lawal’s track record and contributions to the senatorial district, raising broader concerns about accountability, constituency engagement, and the effective use of public resources by aspiring officeholders. These contrasting reactions highlight the reality of Nigeria’s political space, where public actions are increasingly scrutinized and debated by citizens with diverse expectations.
For political analysts, Lawal’s revalidation is more than a routine party exercise. It signals his intention to remain active within the APC framework and positions him as a visible contender within Lagos Central’s evolving political landscape. Lagos Central, which includes Surulere, Lagos Island, Apapa, and parts of Eti-Osa, remains one of the most politically strategic senatorial districts in the state, making early grassroots engagement a crucial factor for any serious aspirant.
As the APC continues its internal reorganization and prepares for future elections, actions such as Lawal’s revalidation underscore the ongoing jostle for relevance, acceptance, and legitimacy within party ranks. Whether this renewed show of loyalty translates into broader political support across the district will depend on sustained engagement, clear policy vision, and the ability to respond effectively to the needs and expectations of constituents.
For now, Olumide Kola Lawal’s revalidation has placed him back in the spotlight, reinforcing his message of unity, commitment, and readiness to participate fully in the APC’s political journey in Lagos Central Senatorial District.
