Pastor Folu Adeboye Recounts Scare Over Alleged Poisoned Food on New Year’s Day
Lagos, October 4, 2025 — Pastor Folu Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has narrated how she narrowly escaped what she described as an attempted poisoning incident at her family’s residence on New Year’s Day.
Speaking during a church program, Mrs. Adeboye revealed that someone brought a meal to their home during the New Year celebration, but she immediately felt uneasy about it. Trusting her instincts, she instructed that the food be tested on the family’s dogs before anyone ate it.
“Someone came with poisoned food to our house on New Year’s Day,” she said. “Many people were around to celebrate with us. The moment I saw the food, my spirit was troubled, and I knew something was wrong. I asked that they should give the food to the dogs. An hour later, the gateman came to tell me that the dog was dead.”
The pastor’s wife added that the incident deepened her belief in divine discernment, thanking God for what she described as a spiritual warning that averted tragedy.
“Imagine if people had eaten that food and died in our house,” she continued. “May God give us the spirit of discernment.”
The revelation has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians debating the authenticity of the account. While some commenters expressed disbelief and described the story as exaggerated, others viewed it as a testimony of divine protection.
The video clip of her remarks, which has since gone viral, was first shared on YouTube and later circulated across Facebook and X (formerly Twitter). Some social media users questioned the motives behind such an alleged act, while others criticized what they saw as the sensational use of faith-based stories to instill fear among church members.
Others, however, supported Mrs. Adeboye, citing similar personal experiences where they claimed to have avoided danger through spiritual intuition.
As of press time, neither the RCCG headquarters nor Pastor Enoch Adeboye himself had issued an official statement regarding the alleged incident.
