Resemblance To Legendary Artiste, 2Baba Affected My Career – Joe El Discloses
Joe El Amadi discusses the drawbacks of having a striking similarity to fellow artist 2Baba.
Joe El admitted that repeated comparisons have hampered his career growth. He said that certain music industry executives and media individuals excluded him from their platforms primarily because of his physical resemblance to 2Baba.
Joe El said…
“The negative aspects of 2Baba representations nearly broke me down. Some broadcasters at Cool FM and Sound City, and an event producer at Festac Carnival 2013, denied me entrance to their platforms because I look like 2Baba”.
“The Sounds City broadcaster confronted me at Club Rumours once, saying that he was the one who told presenters at his station not to play my music because I was impersonating 2Face.”
“The event planner at Festac Carnival insisted that I do not perform because I resemble their King 2Face”.
“The same thing happened when I went for an interview at Cool FM; the host said he couldn’t interview someone who imitated 2face.”
“I complained to my mother and my record label boss, Baba Keke, but they begged me to remain cool. When I try to pay homage to 2Face in public, some of his team members prevent me.”
According to Joe El, collaborating with 2Baba on “Hold On” in 2015 helped change public image and earned him prominence as an individual musician.
When asked about his departure from Kennis Music, Joe El ascribed it to the natural end of his contract, adding, “It was over.”
