Wife of Missing Amotekun Officer Stages Solo Protest in Akure, Demands Answers

The wife of a missing officer of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, codenamed Amotekun, has staged a one-woman protest in Akure, demanding answers from the authorities over her husband’s mysterious disappearance.

According to eyewitnesses, the distraught woman, whose name has not been disclosed, carried placards and walked through major streets in Akure on Monday, appealing for public assistance and government intervention. She said her husband, an officer of the Amotekun Corps, left home on Thursday, October 23, for a peace meeting but never returned.

All attempts to reach him since that day, she said, have been unsuccessful. His phone has reportedly remained switched off, and neither his colleagues nor superiors have provided clear information regarding his whereabouts.

In several videos circulating on social media, the visibly emotional woman was seen calling on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Ondo State Police Command, and the leadership of the Amotekun Corps to intervene urgently in the search for her husband. She accused the authorities of failing to provide timely updates or initiate an adequate investigation into the case.

While the official statement from the Amotekun Corps is yet to be released, unconfirmed online reports claim the woman alleged that the Amotekun Corps Commander might have had a role in her husband’s disappearance. However, the motive behind the alleged involvement remains unclear, and there is currently no evidence supporting the claim.

Security experts and civil rights advocates have since called for a transparent investigation into the incident. They emphasized that, as a state-backed security agency, Amotekun officers deserve full institutional protection and accountability when such matters arise.

The Ondo State Police Command, when contacted by reporters, acknowledged awareness of the incident but stated that an official report had not yet been filed by the family. A senior officer who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that a missing person investigation could commence once formal documentation was submitted.

Community members in Akure expressed shock over the development, describing the missing officer as a disciplined and dedicated member of the Amotekun team known for his active role in curbing insecurity across the state.

Several human rights organizations have also weighed in, urging the state government to ensure that the matter is not swept under the carpet. “It is unacceptable for any officer of a recognized security agency to vanish without trace,” one activist said. “The government must take immediate action to ensure his safe return and to reassure other officers that their safety matters.”

As of press time, the Amotekun Corps has yet to issue an official response to the allegations or provide updates on the missing officer’s status.

The incident has sparked widespread concern among residents, who fear it could undermine public confidence in the security network that was established to protect local communities from crime and banditry.

The search for the missing officer continues as family members, security operatives, and concerned citizens await further developments.
