The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has released the names of students whose Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) refund payments could not be processed due to incorrect bank account details.
According to a notice published by the University’s Students’ Accounts Section under the Bursary Department, the affected refund requests were returned after payment attempts failed because the account information provided by some beneficiaries was invalid or incorrect.
The university has urged all students to check the published list and take immediate steps to correct their banking details to avoid further delays in receiving their refunds.
Why Some NELFUND Refund Payments Failed
UNILAG explained that the affected students are beneficiaries of the NELFUND scheme whose refund requests could not be completed because of errors in their bank account information.
Common issues that can lead to failed payments include:
- Incorrect account number
- Wrong account name
- Invalid bank details
- Closed or inactive bank accounts
- Mismatch between account details and student records
Until these issues are corrected, the refunds cannot be successfully processed.
What Affected Students Should Do
Students who find their names on the published list have been instructed to visit the Students’ Accounts Section of the UNILAG Bursary Department to update their banking information.
Location:
- Students’ Accounts Section
- Close to the CILPU Office
- UNILAG Main Library
University officials advised students to complete the update as soon as possible to ensure their refunds are processed without additional delays.
Who Is Affected?
Only students whose names appear on the published list are required to visit the Students’ Accounts Section.
Students who are unsure of their status should check the official list released by the university.
Why This Update Matters
NELFUND refunds are meant to reimburse eligible students in situations where tuition or related fees had already been paid before the loan disbursement reached the institution.
If a refund payment fails because of incorrect banking information, the funds remain unpaid until the student’s account details are corrected.
UNILAG’s latest notice is therefore intended to help affected beneficiaries resolve the issue quickly so that outstanding refunds can be completed.
