NELFUND has Given Fresh Update on Upkeep Payments for Student Loan Beneficiaries
Students waiting for their monthly upkeep allowance under the Federal Government’s Student Loan Scheme have something to smile about.
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has resumed the payment of upkeep allowances after days of complaints from beneficiaries who said they had not received their money.
The update was confirmed by the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, in a post shared on his official X account on Thursday.
According to him, payments have started again and students who are yet to receive theirs should remain calm as more beneficiaries will be paid.
His announcement has brought relief to many students who depend on the monthly allowance to pay for transport, feeding, accommodation and other school expenses.
Fake Notice Caused Confusion
Before this latest update, many students became worried after a notice circulated online claiming that NELFUND had stopped paying upkeep allowances for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The message spread quickly on social media, leaving many beneficiaries confused about the future of the scheme.
NELFUND later reacted and described the notice as fake. The agency advised students to ignore the information and get updates only from its official channels.
Students Still Waiting May Receive Payment
With payments now back, students who have completed their application process but have not received their upkeep allowance are expected to get paid as NELFUND continues the disbursement.
Beneficiaries are advised to keep checking the bank account linked to their application and avoid relying on unverified messages shared on social media.
The student loan scheme was introduced to support eligible Nigerian students with tuition and monthly upkeep, helping them continue their education without the burden of financial challenges.
As more payments are made, many students will be hoping to receive their alerts in the coming days.
