NELFUND News Today 27 July 2026 : Students Receive June and July Upkeep as NANS Gives Fresh Update on Pending Payments
Thousands of students enrolled in the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) programme have started receiving long-awaited upkeep payments after weeks of uncertainty, bringing relief to many beneficiaries across the country.
The latest disbursement covers the outstanding June and July 2026 monthly upkeep allowances, with many students confirming they have received ₦40,000, representing two months of unpaid stipends.
The development comes shortly after many beneficiaries received their May upkeep allowance, signalling that NELFUND is working through outstanding payments that had generated widespread concern among students.
Relief as upkeep alerts begin to arrive
Over the weekend, social media platforms were flooded with screenshots of bank alerts from students who confirmed receiving their upkeep allowance.
Beneficiaries from universities, polytechnics and colleges of education said the payment would help them settle immediate academic and living expenses, including transportation, feeding, accommodation and study materials.
For many students, the arrival of the funds ends weeks of uncertainty after delays affected the normal monthly payment schedule.
Although thousands have already been credited, payments are still being processed, meaning some eligible students may receive theirs later as the exercise continues.
NANS asks students yet to be paid to stay calm
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has assured beneficiaries that the payment process is not yet complete.
According to the association, NELFUND is releasing the upkeep allowances in batches, and every verified beneficiary is expected to receive any outstanding entitlement.
NANS President Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez said the student body had engaged the management of NELFUND over the delays and received assurances that the backlog would be cleared.
He advised students who have not yet received payment not to panic, explaining that the disbursement exercise is still ongoing.
The association also pledged to keep monitoring the implementation of the student loan programme to ensure eligible students are not left out.
UNIUYO students’ complaints taken to NELFUND
While many students are celebrating the latest payments, concerns remain in some institutions.
One of the major issues raised recently involves students of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO), who alleged that they had not received their upkeep allowances for several months.
Following the complaints, NANS confirmed that it had formally brought the matter before NELFUND’s leadership for urgent attention.
The association said it had received assurances that the issue was being reviewed and urged affected students to remain patient while efforts are made to resolve the outstanding payments.
If resolved, the intervention is expected to provide relief for affected beneficiaries who say the delays have affected their ability to meet basic academic and personal expenses.
Another institution confirms receipt of NELFUND loan funds
As student upkeep payments continue, NELFUND is also expanding tuition loan disbursements to tertiary institutions.
The Federal College of Forestry, Jos, has acknowledged receiving ₦14,769,400 under the Federal Government’s student loan programme.
The funds will benefit 242 students whose applications were successfully processed under the scheme.
The institution confirmed the payment in an official acknowledgement issued by its management, adding another school to the growing list of beneficiaries under the nationwide programme.
NELFUND disbursement keeps expanding
Recent figures released through NELFUND’s public dashboard show the programme has continued to record significant growth.
As of early July 2026:
- More than ₦303 billion has been disbursed.
- 315 tertiary institutions have benefited from the programme.
- Over 1.6 million student applications have been processed through the scheme.
The figures reflect the increasing reach of the Federal Government’s student loan initiative, which provides eligible students with tuition support and monthly upkeep allowances.
Why some students receive payments later than others
One question many beneficiaries continue to ask is why classmates receive alerts while others are still waiting.
Payment delays can happen for several reasons, including:
- Verification of student records.
- Processing of bank account details.
- Institutional confirmation of beneficiary information.
- Batch-based disbursement by NELFUND.
Students who have completed their applications successfully but are yet to receive payment are advised to monitor their registered bank accounts and NELFUND portal updates while waiting for the next batch.
What students should do if they have not received their upkeep
If your classmates have received payment but your account has not been credited, experts advise taking the following steps:
- Confirm that your NELFUND application was approved.
- Ensure your bank account details are correct.
- Check whether your institution has completed verification.
- Follow updates from NELFUND through its official communication channels.
- Report unresolved issues through your institution or recognised student representatives where necessary.
Avoid paying anyone who claims they can fast-track your application or release your funds.
