The Federal Government has announced plans to strengthen the connection between innovation, technology and economic opportunities in Nigeria.
The Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Dr. Mukhtar Yawale Muhammad, made this known during a meeting with Mr. Ubung Umo, Executive Director of Divine Mission for Chris Amani Nigeria Limited, and members of his delegation.
The meeting focused on how innovative ideas and private-sector initiatives can be developed into practical solutions to address challenges in Nigeria.
Government Wants Innovation to Move Beyond Ideas
Muhammad said the ministry is focused on creating an environment where Science, Technology and Innovation can produce practical solutions, economic opportunities and better outcomes for Nigerians.
He stressed that innovation should not stop at ideas or presentations. According to him, appropriate mechanisms are needed to support the development, validation, adoption, commercialization and wider deployment of innovative solutions.
The Permanent Secretary called for stronger cooperation between government institutions, private companies, research organizations, innovators and other stakeholders.
He encouraged Divine Mission for Chris Amani Nigeria Limited to continue developing its initiative while exploring possible areas of collaboration with relevant departments and agencies of the ministry.
Muhammad said the ministry remains open to engaging organizations whose initiatives can contribute to national development through Science, Technology and Innovation.
For Nigerian startups, technology companies, researchers and other innovators, the position highlights the importance of developing solutions that can move beyond the idea stage and address practical needs.
However, the meeting does not represent the launch of a new grant, recruitment exercise or funding program. No specific application portal, funding amount or deadline was announced in the statement.
Earlier, Umo thanked the Permanent Secretary for receiving his delegation and expressed the company’s willingness to explore collaboration with the ministry and other relevant stakeholders.
The engagement highlights the Federal Government’s focus on turning innovation and technology into practical solutions, business opportunities and wider development outcomes for Nigerians.
