(BREAKING) LG Poll: Kaduna electoral commission declares APC winners of 23 LGs, APC winners of 23 LGs, 255 councilorship
The Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission announced the results of the 2024 Local Government Elections, which took place on October 19, 2024, revealing that the All Progressives Congress (APC) achieved significant victories.
Hajiya Mohammed, the Commission’s Chairman, praised the citizens of Kaduna State for their robust participation in the electoral process. She indicated that eight political parties took part in the elections, with the APC securing all 23 chairmanship positions and 255 councillorship roles.
“By the authority granted to the Commission, I confirm the results gathered and submitted by the returning officers. The APC has won all 23 local government chairmanship positions along with 255 ward councillorship positions throughout the state,” she stated.
The chairman listed the local governments where the APC emerged victorious, including Birnin-Gwari, Chikun, Igabi, Ikara, Jaba, Jema’a, Kachia, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South, among others.
The detailed breakdown of the councillorship seats showed the APC winning in various wards: “Birnin Gwari 11 wards, Chikun 12 wards, Giwa 11 wards, Igabi 12 wards, Ikara 10 wards, Jaba 10 wards, Jema’a 12 wards, Kachia 12 wards, Kaduna North 12 wards, Kaduna South 13 wards, and additional wins in Kagarko, Kajuru, Kaura, Kauru, Kubau, Kudan, Lere, Makarfi, Sabon Gari, Sanga, Soba, Zango-Kataf, and Zaria.”
In her remarks, the Chairman highlighted the orderly conduct of the elections as a testament to the voters’ commitment, affirming that “democracy is thriving.” She also commended the Commission’s staff for their dedication and professionalism throughout the electoral process.
Eight political parties participated in the elections, including ADC, AAC, APGA, LP, NNPP, PDP, PRP, and YPP. The results from the local government and ward returning officers were officially submitted as required by law.
Governor Uba Sani, after voting at the LEA Kawo polling unit O47, expressed his contentment with the election’s overall conduct. He noted that the process was largely free and fair, with only minor issues in a few polling units. He underscored the significance of local government elections and the satisfactory turnout across the state, encouraging voters to maintain peace, as elections inevitably yield both winners and losers. The governor expressed confidence that the electoral outcomes would be credible.
