LG poll: Kano imposes restriction on movement

The Kano State Government has announced movement restrictions across the state from midnight to 6:00 PM on Saturday, following consultations with security agencies.

This information was shared in a statement on Friday evening by Baba Halilu Dantiye, the state Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs.

“The purpose of this restriction is to ensure a peaceful and orderly local government election, which will take place in all 484 wards across the 44 local government areas of the state,” Dantiye explained.

The public is encouraged to comply with these movement restrictions to help maintain the integrity and safety of the electoral process. “We are committed to ensuring a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election,” he added, reinforcing the government’s dedication to transparency in the electoral process.

These restrictions will apply to both individuals and vehicles throughout the 44 local government areas and 484 electoral wards in Kano.

As the state prepares for its local government elections scheduled for tomorrow, October 26, the measures aim to enhance security, prevent potential disruptions, and create a favorable environment for a credible voting experience.

Exemptions will be made for individuals performing official election duties and those delivering essential services during this period. Dantiye emphasized that public compliance with the movement restrictions is crucial for the overall safety and success of the election.
