The All-Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has pledged to safeguard its votes in the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 24, 2024.

In a recent phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the state party chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, announced plans to hold primary elections to select candidates for all 44 local government areas.

“We are fully committed to ensuring that our dedicated supporters engage actively in the elections,” Abbas stated. He emphasized that the APC is mobilizing its base to focus on protecting votes and facilitating a peaceful electoral process.

Abbas called on the state electoral commission to create a conducive environment for all political parties, advocating for free, fair, and credible elections. “We seek equal treatment from the commission for all candidates, ensuring no favoritism is shown.”

He also stressed the need for a transparent electoral process, alongside a peaceful atmosphere throughout the election period. The party has initiated a door-to-door campaign to encourage widespread participation in the local government elections across all 44 areas.

The chairman urged party supporters to reject any form of violence leading up to or during the elections, asserting that intimidation would not be tolerated. “Kano State remains a stronghold for the APC, and we intend to sustain our leadership. We urge the commission to uphold the integrity of the electoral process, which is vital for the advancement of democracy in Nigeria,” he concluded.
