Nigerian entrepreneurs and small business owners now have a fresh opportunity to access funding support as WAWU Africa announces a ₦250,000 grant programme designed to help startups and growing businesses scale their operations.

The initiative is expected to support 20 selected entrepreneurs across Nigeria and forms part of efforts to strengthen entrepreneurship, improve business sustainability, and encourage long-term economic growth.

The programme combines business education with financial support, focusing on equipping entrepreneurs with practical knowledge before funding is awarded.

20 Entrepreneurs Will Receive ₦250,000 Each

Under the initiative, twenty successful applicants will receive grants worth ₦250,000 each to support their businesses.

According to information released by the organisation, the programme goes beyond financial assistance and seeks to develop entrepreneurs who can build sustainable and structured businesses.

The grant comes at a period when many Nigerian small businesses continue to face challenges such as increased operating costs, inflation, and limited access to financing.

Rather than selecting beneficiaries based on connections, the organisation said participants will be assessed based on preparation, business potential, and readiness.

Requirements for WAWU Africa ₦250,000 Grant Programme

Interested applicants must meet certain requirements before they can qualify for the programme.

Requirements include:

  • Completion of a Diploma programme in Business or Entrepreneurship
  • Obtain certification after completing the programme
  • Own a registered business
  • Prepare a business plan
  • Join the programme’s WhatsApp community
  • Maintain an active account with one of the programme partner banks

WAWU Africa explained that these conditions are intended to ensure applicants possess the knowledge and structure needed to manage business growth effectively.

Application Portal Opens May 30, 2026

The official application portal for the programme is scheduled to open on May 30, 2026.

Prospective applicants are encouraged to begin preparations early by completing training requirements and arranging necessary business documents before the portal goes live.

Waiting until the final application period may create unnecessary pressure, especially for individuals yet to complete certification requirements.

Purpose of the WAWU Africa Grant Programme

The initiative aligns with WAWU Africa’s mission of building a stronger and more skilled entrepreneurial workforce across the continent.

By combining business education with funding opportunities, the programme aims to:

  • Support small business growth
  • Encourage entrepreneurship
  • Improve business sustainability
  • Create employment opportunities
  • Strengthen economic development

For many entrepreneurs, the grant may provide an opportunity to move beyond basic business survival and focus on expansion and long-term growth.

Conclusion

Funding remains one of the major challenges affecting many startups and small businesses in Nigeria. Programmes that combine financial support with practical business training can help entrepreneurs develop stronger foundations for future growth.

Interested applicants should use the period before the portal opens to complete requirements and prepare all necessary documents.
