Anne Hathaway Announces ‘Princess Diaries 3’ Is Officially in the Works

It has been confirmed by Anne Hathaway that there will be a third Princess Diaries installment.

The popular first two films, which are based on Meg Cabot’s novels, follow Hathaway’s awkward adolescent character Mia Thermopolis as she discovers she is the heir apparent to the throne of the made-up country of Genovia.

“As a die-hard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life,” said Adele Lim (Joy Ride), who is attached to direct, in a statement to Deadline.

“With audiences around the world, we look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship.”

Hathaway has now announced on Instagram that she will be going “back to Genovia” for the movie, confirming her comeback.

“The fairy tale continues” was the caption she wrote beside a video of herself repeating the first two flicks. It is currently unknown if Julie Andrews, who portrays Queen Clarisse Renaldi, her grandmother, would make a comeback to the franchise.

Earlier in the year, the actor stated to TODAY that “sometimes it’s best to leave a good thing alone.”

“The two Diaries were completed quite some time ago,” she remarked at the time. “Maybe it’s preferable to leave a good thing alone, but I’m not sure. I dislike it when people continue to focus on a subject until it passes away.
