BREAKING: Senate begins screening of several ministerial nominees

Senate President, Godwill Akpabio

The Senate has begun the screening process for seven newly appointed ministers. The nominees include Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda for Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Muhammadu Dingyadi for Minister of Labour and Employment, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu for Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Dr. Jumoke Oduwole for Minister of Industry, Trade, and Development.

Other nominees are Idi Muktar Maiha as Minister of Livestock Development, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Ata for Minister of State for Housing, and Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad as Minister of State for Education.

On Wednesday at 12:57 PM, the Senate, prompted by a motion from leader Opeyemi Bamidele, temporarily suspended its rules to allow Basheer Lado, the Special Adviser to the President on Senate matters, to present the nominees during the plenary session.

Senate President GodsWill Akpabio had previously read a letter from President Bola Tinubu announcing the nominations. This action follows President Tinubu’s recent cabinet reshuffle, which resulted in the removal of five ministers: Uju-Ken Ohanenye (Minister of Women Affairs), Lola Ade-John (Minister of Tourism), Prof. Tahir Mamman (Minister of Education), Abdullahi Muhammad Gwarzo (Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development), and Dr. Jamila Bio Ibrahim (Minister of Youth Development).
