EFCC arrests 36 internet fraudsters in Anambra

Operatives from the Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have detained thirty-six individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud across various locations in Onitsha, Anambra State.

These arrests occurred on October 11, 2024, following what the EFCC referred to as “actionable intelligence” connecting the suspects to online criminal activities.

In a statement released on Thursday via X, the EFCC indicated that initial investigations suggested the suspects were impersonating foreign nationals on social media to deceive unsuspecting victims.

The operation also resulted in the seizure of several valuable items, including eight luxury vehicles, along with advanced mobile phones and laptops believed to have been utilized in the fraudulent schemes.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were posing as foreign nationals on social media to defraud victims. The recovered items consist of eight luxury vehicles and high-end mobile devices and laptops. The suspects will face charges in court once the investigation is complete,” the statement noted.

The EFCC reiterated that the suspects would be brought to court following the conclusion of their investigations.
