As universities increasingly seek stronger connections with professional bodies, Mudiame University, Irrua, is positioning itself to provide students with greater exposure to industry and professional practice.
This was evident when the university received a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Ekpoma District Society, during a courtesy visit that also included an invitation to participate in the 9th ICAN Southern Zonal Accountants’ Conference, scheduled for August 11–14, 2026, in Auchi, Edo State.
The delegation included Mr. Frank Orumwense, ACA; Mrs. Akinfolerin Bolanle Susan, FCA; Mr. Isidahomen Vincent; Mrs. Awe Olanike; and Dr. Isaac E. Ogbeifun, FCA, who met with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Aluyor, and members of the university management.
Beyond the conference invitation, the visit underscored the growing importance of collaboration between universities and professional organisations.
Professional bodies such as ICAN complement classroom learning by exposing students to industry expectations, ethical standards, career development opportunities and emerging trends within the accounting profession.
The upcoming conference, themed “Leveraging Innovation and Risk-Taking for Sustainable Economic Growth: The Chartered Accountants’ Perspective,” is expected to bring together more than 1,500 participants, including chartered accountants, academics, entrepreneurs, regulators and government officials.
For students, participation in such engagements offers opportunities to interact with experienced professionals, learn about developments within the accounting industry and gain insights into career pathways beyond graduation.
Professor Emmanuel Aluyor reiterated Mudiame University’s commitment to building partnerships that enrich teaching, research and professional development.
As higher education continues to evolve, collaborations between universities and professional bodies are becoming increasingly important in preparing graduates with both academic knowledge and practical understanding of their chosen professions.
The engagement between Mudiame University and ICAN reflects that shared objective—connecting education with professional practice while helping to prepare the next generation of accounting and business leaders.
