Independence Day: Police deploy personnel, equipment

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has announced the deployment of personnel and resources in preparation for the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on October 1.

Despite currently lacking a Commissioner of Police, the command has not addressed the planned protests coinciding with the festivities. In a statement released on Monday, police spokesperson Josephine Adeh detailed the measures being taken, which include the deployment of Explosive Ordnance Disposal units, anti-riot equipment, and increased visibility measures.

“The FCT Police Command is taking proactive steps to ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence Day for all residents,” Adeh stated. “Our deployment strategy encompasses a range of personnel and equipment designed to facilitate a smooth celebration.”

She also indicated that traffic management plans would be implemented, particularly in areas anticipated to attract large crowds, such as Eagle Square and the Central Area.

“Traffic diversions will be set up in busy locations to manage the influx of people,” she noted. “As residents come together to celebrate, we urge everyone to stay alert and report any unusual activities to our emergency response lines: 08032003913, 08028940883, 08061581938, 07057337653, PCB: 09022222352, CRU: 08107314192.”
