JUST IN: Rema Sells Out Ticket In Malaysia
The record-breaking superstar packed the 2,500-person Arena, where he performed thrilling renditions of his hit songs, with the audience cheering and singing along.
Rema’s Malaysian concert follows his headline performance at the Eden Festival in New Zealand, where he was accompanied by other Afrobeats musicians Tiwa Savage and Ruger.
The sold-out event in Kaula Lumpur demonstrates Rema’s prominence as a superstar whose exploits have substantially contributed to Afrobeat’s global exportation.
The Benin-born performer is one of the most well-known African artists in Asia, where his chart-topping hit track ‘Calm Down’ was a huge triumph.
The song, which is Afrobeat’s first to reach 1 billion Spotify streams, also reached the Guinness Book of Records as the first song to top the MENA list.
Rema had a successful 2024 with the publication of his second album ‘HEIS’, which he termed as an attempt to return Afrobeats to its sound roots.
Rema recently submitted the record for Grammy consideration, which featured guest appearances from fellow Benin City star Shallipopi and rapper Odumodublvck. He hopes to receive his first nomination.
In 2020, Rema stated that he cut his hair in remembrance of the End Sars Result.
According to him, “My mental space did not match my appearance. However, what I see today is a reflection of my mental space. I tend to work from the inside out.
I do not strive to please anyone. “2020 was a crazy year, and the #EndSars movement was taking place in Nigeria due to police brutality.” So, what will allow me to make a difference?
He explained that many celebrities had previously tweeted about it, and he didn’t want to do the same.
He chose to chop his dreadlocks to make a statement. “I conveyed the point with my caption. I answered, “Having dreadlocks does not make you a criminal.”
