Davido Celebrates As New Song “Awuke” Achieve First Day Streams
Davido, the Afrobeats sensation, celebrates a big achievement as his current track, ‘Awuke’, tops the Apple Music Nigeria list, overtaking Wizkid’s ‘Piece of My Heart’.
The track, which was released on October 31, 2024 and featured the grandson of reggae superstar Bob Marley, YG Marley, debuted at number one on Spotify Nigeria within five hours.
The song’s quick rise sets a new milestone for Nigeria, making it the first song to reach number one on Spotify NG based solely on partial-day streams.
In a recent video circulating online, Davido is shown with his cousin, Folasade Adeleke, and his entourage as he learns about his dual-chart-topping track.
He’s captured joyfully banging on the table, evidently elated by the rapid success.
Just yesterday, Davido, discussed the importance of Afrobeat on the worldwide music industry, emphasising how it has become a preferred choice when partnering with foreign artists.
In an interview with Kiss Fresh UK, Davido discussed how Afrobeats’ popularity has skyrocketed in Europe and America, influencing opinions of Africa and its culture.
“I spent a significant amount of time in Europe this summer. I noticed that the scenery had changed. People enjoy Afrobeats.”
“Even American artists want to do Afrobeats instead of their own sound,” he stated.
He emphasised that Africa’s growing cultural influence goes beyond music, stating, “Now, the narrative [about Africans] has changed.” Respect exists not only in music, but also in fashion and food.
Davido became one of the top ten individuals to achieve the fastest streams on Spotify.
This feat has been achieved by Wizkid, Bnxn, Rema and Burna Boy. Of course, Davido has also smashed other records thanks to the success of Awuke. Davido also joins the likes of Burna Boy to feature a Jamaican artiste.
