The Lagos State Government has graduated 500 young people from its Technical, Vocational and Educational Training (TVET) Programme, equipping them with practical skills, start-up kits, and access to a ₦250,000 start-up loan facility to support small business creation.
The graduation ceremony was held at the Sam Shonibare Auditorium and organised by the Lagos State Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment as part of efforts to reduce unemployment and promote entrepreneurship among young people.
About the Lagos TVET Programme
The six-week training programme is designed to provide hands-on vocational and entrepreneurship skills that can help participants become self-reliant and financially independent.
According to officials, the initiative focuses on practical skill development aligned with current labour market demands.
Skills Covered in the Training
Beneficiaries were trained in various high-demand vocational fields, including:
- Computer and phone repairs
- Photography and videography
- Graphic design
- Cosmetology
- Mixology
These skills are aimed at enabling participants to start small businesses or gain employment in growing creative and technical industries.
Government Says Programme Supports Youth Empowerment
Speaking at the graduation ceremony themed “Empowering the Youths: From Knowledge to Income,” Commissioner for Wealth Creation and Employment, Akinyemi Bankole Ajigbotafe, said the programme reflects the state government’s commitment to youth empowerment and economic development.
He explained that the training was designed to prepare young people for real-world economic opportunities through practical learning and industry-based instruction.
Participants were also encouraged to apply their skills to create jobs and contribute to economic growth in their communities.

Start-Up Kits and ₦250,000 Loan Support
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Lolade Aina, confirmed that beneficiaries received start-up kits to help them begin their businesses immediately after training.
She added that graduates can also access funding opportunities through the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund.

Requirements for ₦250,000 Start-Up Loan
To access the start-up loan facility, beneficiaries are required to provide:
- LASSRA ID
- Training certificate
- Tax Identification Number (TIN)
- Valid government-issued identification
Officials noted that these requirements are part of the verification process to ensure transparency and proper allocation of funds.
Encouraging Youth Entrepreneurship
Authorities urged participants to embrace entrepreneurship and reduce dependency on white-collar jobs, emphasizing that the goal of the programme is long-term financial independence.
